WHAT TO DO ON ELECTION DAY?
Citizens will ordinarily receive election slips from political parties informing them of their polling stations (place to vote), which would be close to the place of their residence. Most people residing in and around the same building would have the same polling stations.

Since election identity cards have not yet been issued to all citizens, some proof of identification will need to be carried to the polling booth at the time of voting. The following documents are generally accepted: passport, driving license, PAN card, Service Identity Cards issued to its employees by State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Local Bodies or Public Limited Companies with photographs.

After verifying an individual's identity, a polling booth official marks the voter's forefinger with indelible ink. An EVM (electronic voting machine) is given with the names of all contesting candidates and their election symbols printed on it. The voter has to press the button against the symbol of the candidate s/he wishes to vote for.
