MODEL SCHOOL BUS PROJECT
AGNI Coordiantor 'D' Ward has worked out a [Model] School Bus Project, which aims at decreasing vehicular congestion and noise pollution created on school roads at opening and closing time of schools. Coordinator 'D' Ward and the Principal of Cathedral & John Connan School were responsible for the success of the project in Cathedral School where it continues to function under the supervision of the AGNI Coordinator. This model was used by Bombay International School, Chowpatty and Bombay Scottish, Mahim. The process is on to implement it in other schools in Mumbai.
The school bus project is a good example of interaction between citizens and the authorities, facilitated by AGNI. Traffic Police and Parents of school children have worked together resulting in streamlining of traffic, decreasing congestion and pollution, and safe transport for children to and from school.
Private cars dropping and collecting children at school clog roads and create aerial pollution. The solution is to have "bus" children safely in and out of school. But parents, school authorities and traffic police have to tailor-make a scheme for each school and locality. A model project was evolved by the AGNI Coordinator 'D' Ward and the authorities of Cathedral and John Connon School, Fort, Mumbai.
