ROAD BLOCKED: FOUR MONTHS ON Pothole hunt: Day 2, Dadar roads not okay
From Express News Service, Mumbai, November 22:
ON Tuesday, the Bombay High Court-appointed panel set up to inspect Mumbai’s roads completed its second day on the job.
Led by Court Registrar A P Dawre and Deputy Registrar B M Sakhalkar, with the executive engineer of Wards A, E and F-South—those scheduled for inspection—in attendance, the panel inspected everything from the condition of the inter-locking tiles to the height of the footpaths.
WHO ELSE WAS THERE
Bhaskar Prabhu, a member of non-governmental organisation Action for Good Governance and Networking in India, joined the panel to point out the ‘‘shoddy work’’ done by the civic contractors.
He also guided the panel to the Asiad Bus Terminus and the Dadar Fire Station, where the corners of the street leading to Naigaum Cross Road is at the same level as the footpath.
WHAT THE PANEL FOUND
The pavement of Mumbai Marathi Granth Sangrahalaya Road is also at the same level as the road. At the same junction, the interlocking tiles surrounding a drain have loosened. As a result, it looks like a big pothole.
There are no potholes on Dalal Street, Nagindas Master Road, V B Gandhi Road, Nathalal Parekh Marg and Ramji B Kamani Road in A wards.
In Ward E, there are no potholes on Clare Road, Bellasis Road, Nair Road, Saath Rasta, K K Marg and S Bridge.
WHAT’S SCHEDULED FOR TODAY
The panel, with petitioner Dr Sandip Rane, will inspect roads at Matunga, Worli, Prabhadevi, Dadar, Sion, Dharavi, Mahim, Antop Hill and Shivaji Park—Wards F-North and G.
