PROFILE OF CANDIDATES WE WILL VOTE FOR
AGNI joins numerous others to ask political parties to name candidates for the April 2009 Lok Sabha elections who are / have:

1.0 Qualities as an Individual
1.1 Not more than 65 years of age, younger if possible. Persons who have served three terms must give others an opportunity.

1.2 Preferably a graduate or equivalent, to be able to understand and deal with affairs of State.

1.3 Should have a proven and unblemished record of public service.

1.4 No criminal record of any kind whatsoever.

2.0 Obligatory Disclosures and Commitment
2.1 Candidates must make clear, honest and complete disclosures, as required by law, of assets / liabilities, including PAN number, pending criminal charges if any, and education – also disclose source of income / livelihood.

2.2 Make annual public disclosure of his / her assets and liabilities.

2.3 Sign and abide by commitments made to his / her constituency based on their needs, problems and charter of demands, if any.

2.4 Be always accessible and call quarterly meetings where he / she can give an account of performance in the Lok Sabha.

3.0 Electioneering
3.1 Promote communal harmony and reject political appeals based on religion, caste, language and region.

3.2 Eschew disturbances, use of money and muscle power, adhere to the Model Code of Conduct for political parties / candidates.

3.3 Consult the constituency on its needs and problems and make them a part of his / her routine functioning in Parliament.

4.0 Functioning / Performance after Elections
4.1 Transparency: Must convene quarterly meetings to reveal causes espoused in Parliament and Mumbai-related issues pressed.

4.2 Accountability: Report speeches, questions, committee meetings attended, action taken to fulfill election promises, use of the MP Local Area Development Fund etc.

4.3 Mumbai MPs must team up to push programmes of importance to Mumbai.
